Our Year End Thanksgiving & Praises

By Scott Hafemann

In the normal course of life, children are raised and educated by their parents in order to be faithful to the Lord's calling in their own lives. For countless children in Chad, however, life is not normal: there are no intact families to raise them and no school to attend. So they must face the world hungry in body, soul, and mind. It is not surprising, therefore, that the Scriptures call God's people to care for the orphan as an embodiment of his love. "Father of the fatherless and protector of widows is God in his holy habitation" (Psalm 68:5). Through the mercy of your giving, Village Altonodji, with its own schools and church, is now the family for 123 formerly destitute children in one of the most desperate places in the world. They are being fed in body, soul, and mind. I thank God for you.

In the normal life of the church, we are "raised" and educated by our pastors, who are trained to expound and apply God's word for us in order that we might be faithful to the Lord's calling in our lives. It is not surprising, therefore, that the New Testament calls the church, as the family of God, to love one another (1 Thessalonians 4:9). For countless churches in Chad, however, life is not normal: their pastors have never had the opportunity for a serious theological education. So they must face the serious challenges to their faith hungry to know more about God and his ways in the world. Through the mercy of your giving, Shalom Evangelical School of Theology is

Dieufortifie is without mother or father. She is one of 123 orphaned children at Village Altonodji.

training forty-four carefully chosen students to be the leading pastors of the churches of Chad, who will then be able to train others to lead God's people in this strategic place in the heart of Africa. They are being fed in body, soul, and mind. I thank God for you.

So all I can do is say "thanks" to you too, for responding to God's gifts of grace in your lives, spiritually and materially, by giving to the children and churches of Chad as their extended "family" and brothers and sisters in Christ. So, "thanks."

As we look to the end of this year, we are amazed at all that the Lord has done through your faith, expressed in giving:

Our Year End Praises
As we look to the end of this year, we are amazed at all that the Lord has done through your faith, expressed in giving:

Village Altonodji:
You have completed the vehicle project for the village ($25,000)!
You have continued to support 40 of the children in the village ($1,200 a month)!
You have supported the general budge generously ($24,000 for the year)!
You have prayed for the life of the village (of eternal value)!

Shalom School of Theology:
You have completed the motorcycle project for the faculty ($3,400)!
You have completed the sewing machine project ($1,000)!
You have paid salaries (5 full-time and 5 part-time faculty) and bought books ($5,600 in the last quarter alone)!
You have donated the majority of the ice machine project ($27,000)!
You have prayed for the work of the school (of eternal value)!

Our Christmas Prayers:
As we look to the Christmas season, when we celebrate God's gift of the Christ by giving to others in his name, we are praying for our two biggest needs yet:

Village Altonodji
To complete the village by building its security wall ($180,000), you have given $50,426 (including $18,713 from our matching grant of up to $50,000)! We are praying for $31,287 to complete the matching grant.

Shalom School of Theology
To move the school toward self-sufficiency by starting an ice business ($50,000), you have given $27,000 (including the major gift of $25,000 from Lanesville Congregational Church!). A sister organization from Germany, Hilfe für Brüder, has given $14,000. So we are praying for the last $9,000.
